"If Communism were run by Angels it would be good"

I was raised by my grandparents who were very liberal. My grandfather was a Master Sergeant in the Marines for 22 years and my grandmother was a free spirit, not the hippie type but very liberal. I was thoroughly indoctrinated into democratic politics from a very early age. At holidays it was a regular bash fest on Ronald Reagan and Republicans in general. My uncle Mark, looking back on it he might have been a leftist, just the other week he called me a reactionary. I had to laugh because that's a textbook leftist label.

I called my gramps a few days ago and the discussion quickly turned to politics. I claimed Obama was a socialist and my grandfathers response was not what I expected. He didn't refute that Obama was a socialist but his response was this, "If communism were run by angels it would be good". It blew me away. My grandfather fought tyranny in WWII and Korea. This is a man who raised me with great values and never expressed any of these thoughts. My gramps went to church every sunday and sometimes during the week, but he stopped because he didn't feel he was living up to the tenents of christianity.  My grandfather never drank, smoked, cursed, and never lied. He was very blunt and didn't sugar coat things.  I played a lot of sports and he never gave me praise unless I deserved it. He was a very hard but silent man. If I had gotten into trouble or was disrespectful a simple stern look was sufficient to correct my behavior, most of the time. Like I said his statement was very disturbing because he always taught me to be self sufficient and be responsible for yourself. Until I was 18 he had paid for my car Ins. he told me at 18 I  would have to start paying for it myself he advised me to start looking and set it up so there would be no lapse in coverage. Well I didn't set it up and my car was stolen within the next month or so. Needles to say  he didn't have a lot of sympathy for me. I had to move out at 18. No big deal. While most of my friends were still at home I was happy to be on my own, I had a good job and could afford it. It was freedom. A few times in my  20's and my 30's I needed a break from bills and asked my grandfather if I could stay with him for a little while, he said no. Like I said my gramps wanted me to be self sufficient plus I hadn't been very responsible to that point. Most of my problems have been self inflicted.

What I think what my grandfather was trying to say was that if Communism were run by good people it would be great. But to take by grandfathers words at face value it's easy to show that angels, or anything involved with God is the polar opposite of communism. In Russia churches were taken over and turned into schools of indoctrination.

What is so obvious about Communism is the hostility towards religion. Karl Marx is quoted, "Communism begins where atheism begins". Thats the point. Administors of Communism wanted all religious symbols and figures removed from schools, institutions, and the public square. Lenin, Stalin, Mussolini, and Mao were the new Gods. If the proletariat believed in a higher power then Communist leaders wouldn't be the ultimate authority. Communists wanted to create a "New Man" to shed man of all his natural instincts. French revolutionaries talked of a "civil religion" enforced by the all powerful God-state. For Communism to take hold religion had to be eradicated. "Karl Marx had the Devils view of the world and the Devil's malignity. Sometimes he seemed to know that he was accomplishing the works of evil". Thats Robert Payne, a close friend of marx. A government directive from the Soviet parliment to school educators titled, "Atheistic education in the school", outlined how to seperate God from human society. The opening paragraph is revealing. "The Soviet school, as an instrument for the Communist education of rising generations, can, as a matter of principle, take up no other principle of attitude towards religion than the one of irreconcilable opposition for Communist education has as its philosophical basis Marxism, and Marxism is irreconcilably hostile to religion". These statements and actions show that Communism is not angelic and gets no inspiration from God or religion.

It's very important to understand that the champions of Communism were considered the intellectuals of their time and as such they knew the utopias they promised were fraudulent. While they were able to convince a large number of their citizens with their lofty rhetoric they had to use barbaric coercion to reign in the rest. You see Communism didn't create dictators it attracted them. A Communist government is the most conducive system for a dictatorship. It's just a vehicle to consolidate absolute power and nothing less. If Communism is such fair system for the people then why the need for all the walls? I'll let the leading Communists tell it.

Lenin: Do we really believe that we can be victorious without the cruelest form of terror?
I.N. Stienberg: Then why do we bother with a commisariat of justice? Lets just call it the commisariat for social extermination and be done with it!    Lenin: well put... thats exactly what it should be...but we cant say that. He's not talking about a foreign foe, he's talking about his own people.

Mao Tse Tung: Re-educating your own people you have to administer a powerful shock to the patient and yell at him, you're ill! So that he breaks out all over in a sweat. Then you get him to take the treatment.

Che Gueverra: Revealed in executing prisoners while fomenting revolution in Guatemala, he wrote his mother. "It was a lot of fun, what with the bombs, speeches, and other distractions to break the monotony I was living. His motto was if in doubt kill him.

These were just a few diddy's from the champions of the workers. The hottest places in hell are usually reserved for Nazis. The problem with that is Communism is responsible for many more millions of deaths compared  Nazism.

Our founding fathers were very worldly and educated. Some had traveled the world and studied other forms of government. They were students of history. Coming to the conclusion of employing a capitalist form of government was thoroughly debated by men who had studied other forms of governence and lived under other forms of government. The conclusion was that government needed to be as small and limited as possible, having  just enough government to keep us from anarchy. Capitalism offers the greatest amount of freedom ever known to man. No other form of government has brought as many people out of poverty than Capitalism. Capitalism is responsible for the greatest advancements in medicine, higher education, and invention. It plays into our natural instincts of competition. What communism provides is equal misery, trickle up poverty if you will.  Competition can bring even the laziest most uninspired among us to excellence. There will always be people left behind in any economic system. Socialism the bridge to communism punishes the most productive among us, taxes have become so punitive in our country we have our most productive americans moving their businesses over seas and to former communist countries. China's government has now chimed in and said Obama your spending too much. That's right communist China is giving us advice on capitalism. In communist countries there is the government and the poor. In our Capitalist society we have poor, lower middle class, middle class, upper middle class, rich, and the wealthy. In our country anyone can move up the economic ladder and become powerful. In communist countries all the power is in the hands of the government. As the saying goes absolute power corrupts absolutely. You have the freedom to start your own business, travel to a different country, buy the food you want, purchase the car you want, have as many children as you see fit. The choices are unlimited in every facet of American life.  I was watching VH1 the other day and they had the true story of model Heidi Klum, a top supermodel. She came to the United States from Germany which is a socialist country. When she recounted her arrival, one of the first places she went was a muffin shop, she said she couldn't believe all the different choices of  muffins. Subsequently she went there every day so much so that her fellow models started calling her the "Muffin Lady".

When I was young I would always think why can't all the millionaires just give the rest of us a million dollars. There were surely enough millions to go around. What would happen if money was just given away? There would be a systematic failure of our whole country. Think about a car, bike, or anything else you buy for yourself with money you've earned through hard work. Now think about these same items if they are given to you. Which one do you value more and take better care of? The answer is simple. People take care and have pride in things they work hard for while things given to them are trashed.  Production of goods and services would be unbearabley slow. The quaility of goods would drastically decrease. Invention and advances in technology and medicine would come to a virtual halt. If there is a limit to what you can earn and the goverment allocates your housing, food, clothing, and education then why try to do better than your co-worker or your neighbor? More and more in this country we are starting to think that the government owes us something. There was a time when President Kennedy said, " Ask not what your country can do for you but ask what you can do for your country". We have plenty of socialist programs that are abused and prolong the plight of the underprivileged.  If social programs such as welfare are so successful then why do they it keep expanding? It keeps people in perpetual poverty basically creating careers in welfare.

I love and respect my grandfather more than anyone on the face of the earth. He is an honest a decent man but he comes from the only socialist organization in America that is successful, the military. That colors my grandfathers views on collectivism. What he doesn't realize is that the military isn't 300 million strong and its completely volunteer. Men of faith know that man is flawed and every form of government has it's own flaws because governments are created by man. What has been proven by history is that the free market system of Capitalism is the most successful form of government, ever. It is the envy of the world, men and women risk their lives to migrate to this country illegally and in the most life threatening ways possible.

I'll leave you with one last thought. When the sunami hit indonesia Americans gave twice as much in charitable contributions than the next closest country. Thats the citizens, not our government. Our government has promoted and given us the capability to give to others. People say well we should be the ones to give the most. That completely neglects the fact that Capitalism is responsible for our prosperity and allows us to give more than socialist and communist countries. It becomes almost comical when other countries call us greedy. If giving is the criteria for being angelic then the U.S. has the biggest halos. To be truthful communism is the furthest thing from being fair, just, giving, and free. If angels were to come down tomorrow they wouldn't even entertain the thought of Communism. They would run in the opposite direction.

Disappointed in horowitz

I recently read David Horowitz's column on ratcheting down the rhetoric on Obama. He states that he has a growing concern that conservatives are name calling like liberals did to GWB.  Full disclosure I am a very big fan of  David Horowitz, his book Radical Son really completed my conversion from left to right but we're going to have to part ways on this one.  Anti-christ and Mussolini are some of the names used to label Obama by conservatives. I read a lot of columns like David's, I listen and watch conservatives on radio and t.v. but have never heard those names applied to Obama. What I have heard attributed to our new president are terms like socialist, collectivist, and marxist. The latter probably the most inflammatory. Are these labels appropiate? Yes. I prefer marxist because I think it's the most accurate. Increasingly in our great country we aren't calling things and people by their rightful labels and names. Illegal immigrants are called just migrant workers in any news story especially if they are involved in a crime. The term "War on Terror" is being dropped. Nationalized healthcare is now called "Universal" healthcare. I could go on, the list is long and very Orwellian. In every stage of  Obama's life from his childhood to his political career he has been mentored by marxists, and has said as much. Starting with his mother who was a radical in her own right. In Hawaii he sought guidance from a poet named "Frank" as referenced in his first book 'Dreams'. Well doing the minimal amount of research shows that "Frank" is none other than Frank Marshall Davis member of the CPUSA.  "Frank" was brought before the House of Un-American Activities Commities, government documents show this. In the same book our new president states that in college he attached himself to marxist professors along with other leftist groups. As a state legislator in Illinois his mentor according to him was Alice Palmer. Palmer is a known leftist and is currently a member of many communist front groups. In the early 80's she traveled to the Soviet Union to sit in on their congress and returned to the states with rave reviews of the Soviet system and their progressive policies. At the start of Obama's poltical jump-off he had a "coffee" held at the house of none other than Bill Ayers, a well respected professor and academic, according to Obama. A house also shared by Bernadine Dohrn. At one point named one of  America's most dangerous  people Dorhn is now considered a noble barrister. There are more examples, but finally he spent 20 years in a church that preeched Black Liberation Theology. BLT is nothing more than marxist ideology cloaked in Christianity. It's roots originating from central american marxists. Jonah Goldberg quotes George Carlin in his book 'Liberal Fascism' from the Bill Maher show. "When fascism comes to America, it will not be in brown and black shirts. It will not be with jack-boots. It will be Nike sneakers and Smiley shirts". No doubtedly he was mocking conservatives but we should all take something from this. After WWII communists/marxists hid their beliefs and associations. In the 70's marxists we're very vocal about their ideologies even going so far as claiming a certain brand if you will, Maoist, Trotskyite, and the like. After vietnam the New Left movement  was essentially over.  What happened was they,  in my belief  came up with a new strategy.  Stop with the crazy protests, bathe, put on a suit and tie,  become part of the system, become politicians, teachers, judges and lawyers changing the system from within. Now they have the perfect spokesmodel in the White House. He's a handsome man that has a great voice and can read a teleprompter very well. He's  young, hip, and innoculated from criticism because people are afraid of being called racists. We have to start calling ducks ducks and marxists marxists. Like McCain said, "don't be fooled by lofty rhetoric and empty calls for change".  And remember this. Communism won't come in the form of berets embroidered with the hammer and sickle on the side or some kids wearing some Che shirts. It will come with somebody wearing a suit or pant suit with an  American flag pin on their lapel telling you that they can provide you with healthcare, higher education, baby bonds, housing, and more. All you have to do is vote for them.
